28mm WWII Early War French

Some great models here and nice photography to boot, enjoy.

Herr Brush

In a few weeks I’ll be participating in a 650 point weekday Bolt Action tournament at Huzzah Hobbies, my FLGS. The theme is Early War and as I’ll be running my French I dug them out for a few photos, including my newly completed Motorized Infantry squad. The regular infantry and cavalry are from Crusader, the MMG Team, Somua S35 and 75mm are from Warlord, the Panhard P178 is from Army Group North and the Motorized Troops are from Battle Honors..

January Review

Well that was January then, I kept myself very busy and focussed this month. I set a target of 3 completed models a week…I have beating that, in fact I think it’s the most models I have ever painted in 4 weeks. I also played 6 games of SAGA and managed to win 4 and lose 2 (both losses on the same day!!). Picked up some new rules and figures for Muskets & Tomahawks and squeezed one taster game in last Friday, which I did enjoy, the club campaign kicks off this week so that should be interesting. So below is a list of the completed figures for January;

Norman

Levy x 6, Mounted Hearthguard x 1.

Mutatawwia

Hearthguard Camel & Rider x 2, Hearthguard Horse & Rider x 1, Warrior Bowmen x 5, Hearthguard x 1, Religious Adviser x 1.

Muskets & Tomahawks

French Line Infantry x 4, Indians x 2, French Marine x 1, Coureurs des Bois x 1

So that’s 25 figures in total, quite a good haul really, lets hope I can keep this motivation up.

Muskets & Tomahawks update

Hi,

Been very busy researching, studying rulesets and painting my new Musket and Tomahawk force.

Getting ready for the campaign to kick off in the club and start smashing the Americans and Brits!!

Purchased the French Wilderness Force from Gripping Beast, 20 French Line infantry and an officer from Frontrank Figurines, very impressed with the castings and details are excellent from both companies. Heres a few ipad shots of whats completed so far.

Muskets & Tomahawks

Morning all,
We are running a M&T campaign at the club. I have decided to jump on board and play my first campaign. Going for the French 400 point force.

Not actually played the game lol but I like the look of the rules and the figures look great to paint. Especially like the look of the random events that can happen, throws a realistic dimension into the game. Will post up some pics when I get a chance. Anybody played it?
Cheers.

Gripping Beast Mutatawwia WIP update

Morning all,
Well really been cracking on with these figures. Got a 4 point force for Xmas (thanks family!).
As I write this I have nearly 11 figures complete of 21, really enjoying painting these as I have mentioned in a previous post, its make a change using brighter colours and lighter shading/blending than my Anglo Dane chaps.
Sculpts are fist class, the fine detail on the faces is superb and there is very minimal clean up required (as usual with Gripping Beast). As I write this I have more figures on the way to make up a 6 point and a priest. In addition the official forum reckons that Naffatan mercs are very useful, so have got 4 of those coming as well.

Few pictures from my ipad..

Lion Rampant Review

This sounds an interesting set of rules, I may pick it up in the next month or so. Anybody else played it?

Bad Squiddo Games (The Dice Bag Lady)

Recently you may have noticed a few changes around here, well I’ll get to that in another post later in the month but yes the website has been entirely revamped and the shop has been completely made over to stock lots more such as rulesets, miniatures and terrain for Medieval, Dark Age, and Wild West gaming. A small round of applause to the huge DBL web team… oh no wait, there isn’t one, just me! Go me!

lion Lion Rampant £11.99

But right now, I feel we need an entire blog post to talk about LION RAMPANT. A brand new medieval skirmish game from Osprey Publishing. I’m sure you must be familiar with Osprey, every historical gamer has at least a hundred of their reference books piled around the house, and another hundred in the footwell of the car. Well possibly rather naively, I had no idea they produced wargames rules…

On the workbench this week, SAGA and targets.

Happy New Year to you all, I hope you received some nice new pressies…I got loads more lead.

To keep myself motivated I have set myself a target of at least 3 completed models a week. I know it does not sound a lot, especially when I look at some people’s blogs, they have set targets of 800 plus for the year!! I am currently working on my two SAGA forces, so on the workbench this week is..

Norman – 3 x Levies and 1 x Mounted Hearthguard.

Mutatwwi’a – 1 x Mounted Hearthguard on Camel, 1 x Warrior with Bow and 1 Hearthguard on Foot.

You clever people will have noticed that’s more than 3 there for the week. What I have found is that since I got my painting mojo back I find it easier to stay interested if I have a variety of models on the go at once. I am loving the new Mutatwwi’a warband, never painted a camel and the chance to use bright sunny colours and light washes is making a real change from Anglo Dane stuff, and the models are as usual, high quality casted.

What are you guys working on and have you set any goals?

I hope to get some WIP pictures up this weekend.

Workbench update..

Hope you all had a great Xmas, I managed to finish 6 Flemish Mercs, planned 8 and 2 Norman Levies, planned 3. So 4 down on target, but  Xmas parties and all lol. Got my new Crescent & Cross Mutatawwia warband yesterday, undercoat on 3 of them today as pic below. Pics from my iPad again so not brilliant but ok for WIP’s. Have a great New Year and a lead full 2015.
